Kingsway Regional HS hosted its forth annual NJ Drama and Forensics League tournament on January 26, 2019. Over 100 students from seven schools participated in the participated to an exciting day of Dramatic and Public Speaking events.
The NJDFL’s mission is to foster a competitive and creative outlet for High School Theater and Forensic students, while providing a forum for competition and constructive feedback as well as encouraging growth and development in the theatre/speech arenas.
Kingsway’s team of 21 competed in the theater and speaking events of Dramatic Monologue, Comedy Pairs, Persuasive Speaking, Dramatic Oral Interpretation, Improvisational pairs, Humor Oral Interpretation, Impromptu speaking Reader’s Theatre, Musical Pairs, Dramatic Pairs, Comedy Monologue, and After Dinner Speaking.
Senior Mia Faulk placed third with a moving performance in Dramatic Monologue as the character of Rose from August Wilson’s play, Fences, which was also a movie directed by Denzel Washington and starting Viola Davis as Rose.
Mr. Young summed up Kingsway’s latest NJDFL experience with confidence. “We have some work to do if others are going to qualify for the State tourney. We have tourneys scheduled at Eastern High (Feb 2, 2019 and at Mainland (Feb. 16, 2018). I have no doubt our NJDFL competitors will step up and qualify for States late Feb at Raritan HS.
