Kingsway recognizes Spotlight Teacher & Support Staff

Steve Ottinger Image

Kingsway Regional Middle School could not pick a better Spotlight Teacher for the Month of January — seventh-grade social studies teacher and O Team Leader, Steve Ottinger. From the minute Mr. Ottinger stepped into the middle school seven years ago, he has made a positive impact on his students, colleagues, department, team, and the entire school. Mr. Ottinger’s professional approach and workmanlike attitude has made him an outstanding educator who is valued greatly at Kingsway Regional Middle School. In the classroom, Mr. Ottinger shines because of his varied and multifaceted approach to instruction. He utilizes stations, Socratic Seminars, technology, competitions, and more. He is quick to try a new idea and even quicker to tweak that idea if it is not perfect for his students. His well-structured classroom routines enable him to engage his students throughout the learning process each day. Mr. Ottinger makes it a priority to assess his students in a multitude of ways, and the relationships he builds with them each year, help to ensure students buy into whatever the class period brings. In his eyes, he never is a finished product as an instructor, and he continues to grow each day, to benefit his students.

Carmela Hampton Image

A Woolwich Township Resident, Mrs. Carmela Hampton began driving a school bus for Kingsway Regional School District in May 1999. Previously from Paulsboro, her family moved to Woolwich in 1995. Carmela and her husband raised three children who graduated from Kingsway Regional in 2006, 2010, and 2012. She currently has a granddaughter that attends Walter Hill Elementary. Carmela became active in the community immediately upon moving to Woolwich. Over the years, she has worked in the voter polls, served as a substitute crossing guard, and helped students as a lunch aide at Walter Hill Elementary. As a bus driver from Kingsway, Carmela gets to work every day with those whom she loves — her students. She enjoys being part of the Kingsway team day-in and day-out, and especially enjoys greeting the children each day, whom she says often mimic her morning sayings. Carmela is the most senior employee within the Transportation Department; her knowledge and history of the school district serves as a valuable resource to her colleagues. She believes that Kingsway has come a long way and feels that the changes are exciting and positive. Congratulations to Mrs. Carmela Hampton for being named February’s Spotlight Support Staff Member!
