Students Win South Jersey Math Competition


(Glassboro, NJ, Feb 2, 2019) — A team of middle school Mathletes® from Rosa International Middle School in Cherry Hill took top honors at the South Jersey MATHCOUNTS® Competition. The top individual was Jaimin Nam, an 8th grader also from Rosa International Middle School in Cherry Hill.


Members of the winning team were: Jaimin Nam (8th grade), Shruthika Padhy (8th grade), Yul Nam (6th grade), and Max Veksler (7th grade) and coach Ann Saddel.  The team will now advance to the New Jersey State Competition, to be held at Rutgers University in Piscataway on March 9, 2019.


The Second Place team was from Clearview Regional Middle School in Mullica Hill and the Third Place team was from Haddonfield Middle School.  Fourth place team was Kingsway Regional Middle School in Woolwich.


Also advancing to the New Jersey State Competition are the second, third and fourth placing individual students.  They are Ryan Smith (Kingsway Regional Middle School, 8th), Yul Nam (Rosa International Middle School, 6th), and Rachel Boroda (Voorhees Middle School, 8th), respectively.


More than 100,000 students across the U.S. participate each year in the MATHCOUNTS Competition Series, a national math competition that aims to build confidence and problem-solving skills for students who participate. Programs like MATHCOUNTS are critical to preparing students to succeed in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) careers of the future.


The New Jersey program is sponsored by the New Jersey Society of Professional Engineers (NJSPE). Leadership at the local levels of the MATHCOUNTS Competition Series is provided by members of NJSPE.
