The Kingsway Experience

Kingsway is a limited purpose regional school district that offers its students a rigorous academic program and a myriad of enrichment programs and services for students in grades 7 to 12. Kingsway Regional Middle School (Grades 7 to 8) and Kingsway Regional High School (Grades 9 to 12) cater to the individual needs of our students and promote opportunities for students to pursue their own areas of interest. Our population of approximately 2,700 students is multicultural and reflects the diversity of the communities it serves.

Kingsway is situated in predominately rural/suburban areas, with more than 27,000 people residing within its 52 square mile border. According to the 2010 census, this is a total population increase of approximately 100% since 2000. In the same period, Kingsway’s student enrollment increased by more than 60 percent. The District includes Swedesboro and the Townships of South Harrison, East Greenwich and Woolwich. Though not part of the District, students from Logan Township attend Kingsway Regional High School through a send/receive relationship as paid tuition students.

Over the last decade the student population has grown from 1,100 students in the 2000-01 school year to approximately 2,700 students at present. A recent demographic study projects student enrollment to exceed 3,000 students over the next several years.

This level of growth compounded with reductions in state aid has forced Kingsway to “do more with less” and stretch every tax dollar to its absolute limit. For example, We are very proud of the strides we’ve made as an organization with respect to energy conservation. Over the past two years Kingsway has saved more than $1.5M in energy costs. Kingsway is the recipient of the Energy Pacesetter Award (2010), Environmental Excellence Award (2011) and Energy Star Leader (2012). These Awards highlight Kingsway’s commitment to energy conservation and demonstrates the fact that the District is stretching every tax dollar as far as it can in an effort to direct more resources where they belong – in the classroom.

Moreover, as one of 47 high school districts in all of New Jersey – as categorized by the State’s Comparative Spending Guide – Kingsway spent $2,779 less per pupil than the average high school district and as a result ranks as the lowest spending regional school district in its category. In laymen’s terms, this means no other school district in the entire state – in our category – demonstrated a lower total cost per pupil in their operating budget when compared to Kingsway.
