Finalsite’s 2-Way Communication Platform
INTEGRATED TEXT MESSAGING FOR IMPROVED RELIABLE COMMUNICATION
Kingsway School District is excited to launch Finalsite’s 2-Way Communication Platform for the 2026-27 school year, providing an unified experience for all district communications.
Available through the Kingsway Mobile App, 2-Way Chat gives participating teachers, coaches, advisors, and school staff a simple way to communicate with families in one convenient location. This streamlined communication experience consolidates updates, direct messages, and critical notifications into a single platform, eliminating the need to manage multiple apps, text threads, or email chains.
As part of this rollout, the app is incorporating essential text messaging notifications (including welcome messages for new users and notifications for unread chats) to ensure important content surfaces reliably, boosting overall engagement.
IMPORTANT: OUR DEDICATED SENDER NUMBER
Text messaging reminders will originate from our organization's dedicated number.

Chat rooms – How chat rooms work
As a teacher, you are assigned the Chat Manager role. This gives you moderator-level access to your assigned chat rooms.
- Your rooms are created during implementation. Chat rooms are typically created by Kingsway and are pulled from your Genesis classroom roster. You may also create additional rooms manually as needed.
- Two types of rooms are available. One-way rooms allow only the Chat Manager to post (good for announcements). Two-way rooms allow all participants to send and reply.
- You moderate participant activity. As Chat Manager, you can remove members, report messages, and manage the overall environment of your rooms. Admins maintain oversight at the district level.
- Participants receive translated messages. All messages are automatically translated for families based on their preferred language — no action is required on your part.
Direct messaging – Sending direct messages
Direct messages allow you to have private, one-on-one or small group conversations outside of chat rooms. Use direct messaging to follow up with an individual family or connect with a colleague.
- Open the Direct Messages section, located below your chat rooms list on the main chat screen.
- Select a recipient. Search by name to find a parent, guardian, or staff member.
- Compose and send your message. You may include text, emoji reactions, file attachments, and threaded replies, subject to your district's sharing permissions.
Notifications – Managing notification settings
You can customize when and how you receive chat notifications to suit your schedule.
-
Access your preferences. Tap your profile icon in the app or browser, then select Notifications under Preferences.
-
Set quiet hours. Specify days and times when you will not receive push notifications — for example, evenings and weekends.
-
Choose notification types. Toggle notifications separately for important announcements, chat room messages, and direct messages.

Communication & Expectations
When can I start messaging my child’s teacher?
The Kingsway Regional School District will officially launch Finalsite 2-Way Chat for the 2026–2027 school year on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
Teachers, coaches, advisors, and other staff members may choose to use 2-Way Chat as a communication tool with families. If your child's teacher is participating, you will be able to message them through the Kingsway Mobile App or the web portal.
Note: As class schedules and student rosters are finalized at the beginning of the school year, you may see changes to your available Chat Rooms and contacts. During the initial rollout, 2-Way Chat will be used primarily by coaches, club advisors, and activity leaders. Classroom teacher participation is expected to grow over time.
If I message my child’s teacher, how soon can I expect to hear back from them?
2-Way Chat provides another convenient way for families and school staff to work together. While staff members strive to respond as quickly as possible, response times vary depending on teaching schedules and daily responsibilities.
As a general guideline, families can expect a response within one school day. Please note that staff are not expected to respond to messages outside of their regular work hours.
Notifications & Text Reminders
How are chat notifications limited to certain hours?
You can customize your notification boundaries directly in the app. Go to Notifications > Chat messages and choose Always, Every day, Weekdays, or Custom.
Will I receive text message reminders for unread Chat messages?
Yes. To help families stay engaged and reply promptly to time-sensitive updates, the district sends automated text reminders if you have unread messages waiting in the Finalsite App.
What phone number will these text reminders come from?
All official text reminders from Kingsway's 2-Way Chat will come from our dedicated district number: (208) 858-7505. We recommend saving this number in your phone as "Kingsway Chat Reminders" so you always recognize it.
When are text reminders sent?
To respect your personal hours, unread message text reminders are strictly limited to daytime hours. They will only be sent between 7:00 AM and 9:00 PM local time, any day of the week.
How long does the system wait before texting me about an unread message?
A text reminder is automatically triggered if you have unread messages and it has been 1 day since you were last active in the mobile app.
What do the text reminders look like?
The texts are brief (under 60 characters) and include a direct link to open the app.
-
For a single unread message:
Kingsway Regional: <Snippet message... of>. Tap to respond in our app: https://link -
For multiple unread messages:
Kingsway Regional: You have 10 unread messages. Tap to respond in our app: https://link
Chat Features & Settings
Who can access Chat rooms?
-
Parents/Guardians
-
Students (Grades 7-12)
-
Teachers, Coaches, School Leaders, and Office Staff (designated as Chat Managers)
Posting Permissions
Chat Managers control posting permissions. Some Chat Rooms will allow everyone to post messages, while other Chat Rooms will be restricted to announcements from Chat Managers only.
What’s the difference between Direct Messages and Chat Rooms?
-
Direct Messages (DMs): Designed for personalized, one-on-one conversations regarding a student's learning experience. Parents and teachers can use DMs to collaborate closely. Students (grades 7-12) can start a DM with teachers and coaches, but cannot message other students or other parents. Parents also cannot message other students or parents.
-
Chat Rooms: Group conversations through which staff share information, announcements, and reminders with larger groups. Follow-up conversations stemming from a Chat Room announcement can be handled by starting a separate Direct Message.
Can media and files be attached to messages?
Parents and teachers may attach photos or files to a Chat Room or Direct Message. Students cannot attach photos or files anywhere in the platform.
How is a Direct Message started?
Tap the + or Compose icon in the Direct Messages section on the Chat home screen, then select one or more recipients.
Can you tell if a message has been read?
Yes. A checkmark icon next to your sent message displays exactly how many participants in that conversation have read it.
Translation Support
Is Chat available in other languages?
Yes. The app interface supports 57 languages, and the Chat feature itself supports real-time message translation into more than 100 languages.
How does translation work?
Chat uses Neural Machine Translation (NMT) to analyze entire sentences for context and tone. This helps the system understand conversational nuances so the true intent of your message comes through clearly to the recipient.
Does it translate attachments?
No. Translation applies strictly to live typed text. Text embedded inside images, flyers, or PDF attachments will not be translated.
Can the original message be viewed?
Yes. Simply tap any translated message to instantly toggle back to its original language. Tap it again to return to the translation.
Chat Safety & Moderation
Can messages be edited or deleted after sending?
Yes. Long-press any message you sent to bring up options to edit, copy, or delete it. Please note that district administrators retain a secure archive of all message histories for safety and policy compliance.
How is Chat monitored for safety?
Finalsite uses a hybrid moderation approach: AI-powered content filtering catches harmful content automatically in real-time, while district and school administrators provide ongoing human oversight.
Can I report an inappropriate message?
Yes. Long-press the offensive message, tap Report, and select a reason. School administrators are notified immediately to take action.
What happens when harmful content is detected?
Depending on the severity of the violation, the system automatically takes one of five actions:
-
No action
-
Flag for human review
-
Shadow block (hidden from others without notifying the sender)
-
Block (removed entirely, sender notified)
-
Bounce and block (content instantly rejected and the user account disabled)
What types of content does the moderation system catch?
-
Text is scanned for bullying, child safety risks, self-harm, hate speech, sexual content, explicit threats, sharing of Personally Identifiable Information (PII), spam, substance abuse, and academic dishonesty.
-
Images and Videos are automatically scanned across 11 distinct categories, including explicit content, violence, hate symbols, and unauthorized QR codes.
Is Chat HIPAA-compliant?
No. Protected health information must never be transmitted through Chat. Please use a secure database or standard encrypted district email for official medical and health documents.
Does this platform comply with student privacy laws?
Yes. Finalsite Chat is fully compliant with FERPA and COPPA standards. Furthermore, no student data or conversation logs are ever used to train public AI models.
What happens if a user is blocked?
Users who repeatedly violate community guidelines or safety standards can be temporarily or permanently restricted from using the platform by district administrators.
What can Chat Managers (Teachers, Coaches, Staff) do that participants cannot?
Chat Managers have elevated tools to keep rooms safe; they can temporarily block users, mute disruptive participants, and report messages. They do not have access to the full district moderation dashboard or the ability to permanently delete student accounts—those capabilities belong strictly to District and School Admins.
