New Jersey Tiered Systems of Support (NJTSS)

NJTSS intends to provide interventions as a part of the general education instructional program. All students will receive the necessary instructional support to succeed in our educational community through differentiated instruction, data-driven decision-making, and the incorporation of need-based interventions.

The New Jersey Tiered System of Supports (NJTSS) is an integrated framework that uses data-driven problem-solving to maximize student achievement and support students' behavioral and social-emotional needs.  NJTSS is designed to provide differentiated support through a multi-tiered approach to maximize student achievement across academic and behavioral domains. This framework emphasizes evidence-based practices, collaborative education planning, and responsive interventions. Technology is leveraged to improve educational outcomes through personalized learning experiences and data analysis. Tailored instruction ensures all students have access to the same grade-level and content-specific curriculum. Schools with robust implementation frameworks have much higher rates of student achievement and reduced disciplinary incidents (Fixsen, as cited in Novak, n.d.).

NJTSS is not an initiative; it is a structure. NJTSS is the vehicle we can use to achieve the vision and goals set forth in the district’s strategic plan. The strategic plan relies on an ongoing analysis of a wide range of data to determine long-range priorities and initiatives for the school. At the same time, NJTSS works to support groups and individual students in short-term, measurable increments. A successful NJTSS implementation will ultimately contribute to the success of strategic plan goals over time.

NJTSS is designed to provide varying levels of support based on student needs:

NJTSS is a data-based problem-solving process consisting of four components:
