The Kingsway Regional School District is committed to sustained improvement and recognizes the ever-evolving needs of our students and families. Instructional technology and virtual learning are not new trends, rather they are educational supports that have the capacity to personalize instruction and improve student learning outcomes.
As such, the District acknowledges both a need and an opportunity to provide personalized learning for students via an expansion of digital learning modalities. This pilot aims to create learning experiences, design environments, and cultivate mindsets that are responsive to the interests, strengths, and needs of individual students. This endeavor presents multifaceted challenges including uniting stakeholders with a common understanding of the goal and the best path forward, updating physical and technical infrastructure, designing new learning modalities and resources, and building the capacity of educators to take on new roles and new approaches to classroom instruction. Monitoring of HyFlex course enrollment and achievement data allows the District to refine a usable, scalable model to expand upon in subsequent school years.
Course Offerings
Available for students entering 11th or 12th grade, hyflex course formats provide students with the flexibility to work in a non-traditional learning environment through a combination of synchronous and asynchronous instruction. These opportunities have the potential to positively impact a student's learning experience through the provision of self-paced, personalized learning, and greater exposure to online learning in preparation for college and career. All course offerings, regardless of format, align with the New State Learning Standards and/or the AP College Board Course Standards. Additionally, each course leverages Kingsway’s curricula, built and vetted by Kingsway teachers, and delivered via our learning management system, Schoology.
Students First
With an emphasis on equity and opportunity, we recognize the diversity of students and the variety of learning needs in each of our classrooms. We seek to get to know our students through a combination of relationship building and available student data, so we may always operate in the best interest of the student and their social-emotional and learning outcomes. We believe not all students learn at the same pace or by the same method. Consequently, we commit to using blended learning strategies, differentiating our instruction, and embedding opportunities for personalized learning to allow all students to master the standards. Additionally, advanced learners have unique experiences to work more deeply with content and skills in authentic ways.
Moving Forward Strategically
Throughout the past two school years, Kingsway engaged a variety of stakeholders to develop a strategic plan that will be a guiding force in the 2023-2024 school year and beyond. Some of the focuses include blended learning, the effective integration of instructional technology, and our commitment to providing students with high-quality, authentic learning experiences that successfully prepare students for their unique path in life.
