Player of the Year: Sean Daly, Kingsway, Senior
Daly did a little bit of everything for Kingsway this season. He was the Dragons’ leading scorer this season with 12 goals and he also was their top playmaker this year with 14 assists.
The senior had his imprints in every game this season for Kingsway, leading the line as a forward and then showing his versatility by dropping into the midfield to protect leads. His work rate was outstanding, always leading the Dragons’ press and closing down opposing defenders to try and win the ball high up the field and begin transition attacks.
He rarely came off the field and scored important goals this season for the Dragons,
who ended the season with a 16-3-1 record with an appearance in the final of the
South Jersey Coaches’ Cup and a trip to the semifinals of the South Jersey, Group 4 sectional tournament.
Daly was the key piece to it all.
Team of the Year: Kingsway
The senior class that John Green had at Kingsway this season, will be one of his best.
A class that included players like Daly, senior centerback and four-year starter Jeff Heineman,
AJ Henry, Kyle and Dylan Kirwin and Patrick Roche among others, helped the Dragons stake
their claim as the Tri-County Conference’s top team this season.
A 16-3-1 record had Kingsway as one of the top Group 4 schools in South Jersey and the state as well.
One of the three losses came against rival Clearview 1-0 at Subaru Park in a contest
where the Dragons played really well, but could not score.
Green was able to regroup his team following that loss and the Dragons won seven consecutive games
before falling to Cinnaminson, a team that ended the season No. 20 in the NJ.com top 20,
in the final of the South Jersey Coaches’ Cup.
Green then led his team to the South Jersey, Group 4 semifinals before losing to Cherokee 2-0
after defeating Bridgeton and Shawnee leading up to the semifinals.
All in all, Green led a fantastic Dragons team this season and rode a terrific senior class
that will be remembered for accomplishing a ton in their four years with the team.
